This herb is the root of Astragalus membranaceus Bge. var. mongholicus (Bge.) Hsiao or Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge (family Leguminosae). It is produced mainly in Shanxi, Gansu, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia. It is dug in spring or autumn, sliced, dried in the sun.
